The Many Health Benefits of Drinking Tea

51JugLecndL. SL160 The Many Health Benefits of Drinking TeaIt is a well-known fact that tea has a variety of different health benefits, however in recent years U.S. scientists have made the shocking claim stating that tea is a “medical miracle” that has the potential to “save thousands of lives.”

Not only that, some experts claim that tea may in fact be healthier for you than water because it essentially “rehydrates” you whenever you drink it, and for health benefits drinking one cup of tea is equivalent to eating one portion of fresh vegetables.

Tea contains high levels of antioxidants which can help remove free radicals in your body and even prevent them from harming your healthy cells as well. (Polyphenol antioxidants are common in plants such as tea leaves and studies have shown that they can help prevent cell damage).

Furthermore, tea also contains fluoride which can help kill any bacteria and plaque that is forming in your mouth, and help control bad breath at the same time.

Scientific studies have also found that drinking tea can help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, and protect you from heart disease. Green tea specifically can help reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, specifically in men, and both black and green tea can help slow down the spread of prostate cancer and also reduce the risk of mouth cancers and stomach cancers as well.

In fact, some researchers have discovered that tea can help slow down the growth of pre-cancerous cells, and tests on mice and rats have shown that tea actually slowed down the development of lung tumors and colon cancer, and also decreased the risk of digestive tract cancer as well.

If you truly want to enjoy some of the many health benefits of tea, try drinking high quality tea over low quality tea as it tends to contain more antioxidants, and choose white and green tea over any other type of tea, (black tea apparently goes through more processing which can drain out much of the antioxidants). Furthermore, freshly brewed tea tends to have more antioxidants than instant or bottled tea.

So the next time you head to the kitchen to make yourself your precious pot of coffee, try to remind yourself of the numerous health benefits tea has to offer and choose a “cuppa” instead.
